I believe these iMacs also have heat sensors on the original force. If IT does, then you need to set up that heat detector along your new drive. If the logic board is not acquiring a reading from this sensor it'll campaign ur fans to blare at full speed. Read this.

Well-nig Facilitative Answer
Hi, its a temp sensor apple puts in their hard drives thats not present in other drives non from apple. There is software package designed to deal with this problem, its not free but works well. The internet site also explains the problem,
The software package is iMac HDD Fan Control, the internet site is World Wide Web.hddfancontrol.com.
Ohio and there is a unrestricted demo to see if it works for you.

Wow... I have to endorse Harry's advice above about the iMac HDD Fan Moderate application. After taking my 21.5" iMac apart twice and making trusted I replaced all the connections, I was ready to go back and set up the original drive because I just couldn't allow the hard drive fan lengthways at 5200 rpm day in and day out. My wife could hear it in the room next room access.
Then I read about the temperature sensing element on the Apple force back (doh)... simply this applications programme is golden. For $30 IT regenerate me plane having to open my iMac binding upward. And there's a DEMO! Now that's clamant gratification for you. I didn't suspect this was a trouble that could be solved by computer software. Thankfully I was wrong.

I'll bet information technology full treatmen great, but $30 is way, way to a fault a great deal for this. If it was $5, I would hold snapped it up in a pulsation, but not 6x that. No elbow room.

Funnily I had the same problem.
My solution was pretty cushy - in the long run. I was far also cautious in placing the RAM into the Mac. And so the connection was not 100% ok. Precisely taking them out & plug them in.
For me this did the job completely.
Just in case it won't do for you; IT's antitrust 5 minutes of body of work ^^

You careen Provok. I replaced the screw my mumm's iMac (17" Intel) a while back and it was fine at early but appears the sensor failed or lost connection resulting fully speed fans. I couldn't feel the problem for the life of me until I came here.
Thanks to HDDFanControl information technology's posterior to normal spell still protecting the machine. If you retributive defeat the detector you're losing protection, HDDFanControl uses SMART to get the drive temperature and keep your machine protected. Plus you chafe demo it for an hour to find out if that solves you'atomic number 75 problem or if there's more than to it than that, couldn't ask for a more elegant solution.

You can use the optical drive sensor from a 2009 and newer iMac to send temp info on the 2010 and 2011 logic boards. Merely compare the HD sensor jack on the logic board to the optical drive sensing element jack and you will observe the right unitary. The sensors are cheap, normally about $20 and testament account skin temporary on the drive storage locker adequately enough to keep the internals cool without complete-revving the fan

Has anyone else reseated ram to correct this issue. I have all my sensors plugged including hdd sensor… still loud fan noise middle 2010 imac
